PART II, SECTION 5 UNDERSTANDING
SPECIFIC ESC RIGHTS |
USING MODULE 10 IN A TRAINING PROGRAMThe Right to Work and Rights at WorkGO TO SECTION I - MODULE 10 |
The purpose of Module 10 is to provide an overview of the right to work as well as rights at work or labor rights. This module should help trainees understand/clarify for themselves: the international standards guaranteeing the right to work, and how to analyze a states obligations related to this right; and the essential elements of rights at work (or labor rights) and their implications for protection of ESC rights. Suggested Methods Lecture presentation: A facilitator could make a lecture presentation summarizing the main points contained in the module. However, the presentation should be done in two parts-the first part covering right to work and the second, covering rights at work. It is important to include the gender dimension in both. Group work on developing model policies for ensuring the enjoyment of the right to work: A facilitator could ask the participants in small groups to prepare model schemes for ensuring the enjoyment of the right to work. For example, they could prepare an employment guarantee scheme for unemployed rural youth. The participants should justify how the proposed schemes contribute to the right to work and are not mere welfare schemes. Presentation by union leaders: Trade union leaders could be invited to make a presentation on the available national standards and international standards on rights at work. |
