Sofía Galván creó esta herramienta de los Derechos de los d iscapacitados i nternacionales para una presentación para el curso sobre <<Aspectos f undamentales del d erecho i nternacional de los d erechos h umanos y a spectos p rácticos para el l itigio e stratégico>> en abril de 2013. Contiene tres materiales: (1) dos Powerpoints, y (2) un trabajo.

Los dos Powerpoints cubren el crecimiento del sistema interamericano para la protección de los derechos humanos, principalmente la Convención a mericana de los d erechos h umanos, la Comisión i nteramericana de los d erechos h umanos, y la Corte i nteramericana de los d erechos h umanos. La primera presentación presenta las historias, estructuras, competencias, y funciones básicas de cada mecanismo, además de las medidas para tomar acción en las cuestiones de los derechos humanos. La segunda presentación detalla los procesos recientes con el fortalecimiento del sistema interamericano con el progreso y las recomendaciones del grupo de trabajo de 2011.

El papel explica el qué, cómo, cuándo, dónde, y por qué de la Corte Interamericana y la Convención Americana. Traza en términos generales su jurisdicción, sus funciones, y los estados miembros; también explica los derechos y libertades básicas y procedimientos legales de la corte y convención.

This toolkit was created by Sofía Galván of Disability Rights International for presentation at the Alliance’s three-day course in April 2013 on “Aspectos f undamentales del d erecho i nternacional de los d erechos h umanos y a spectos p rácticos para el l itigio e stratégico” (“Fundamental Aspects of the International Right of Human Rights and the Practical Aspects for Strategic Litigation”). It includes three materials: (1) two PowerPoints, and (2) a paper.

The two Powerpoints cover the growth of the Inter-American system for protection of human rights, mainly the American Convention on Human Rights, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. The first presents the basic history, structure, competence, and functions of each mechanism, as well as the steps taken on human right issues. The second details recent processes on strengthening the Inter-American System with the progress and recommendations of the working group established in 2011.

The paper lays forth the “what,” “how,” “when,” “where,” and “why” of the Inter-American Court and American Convention. It broadly outlines where their jurisdiction sits, their functions, and the member states; it also explains the basic rights, liberties, and legal procedures of the court and convention.
