At its 57th meeting, on 11 April 1997, the Commission on Human Rights, taking note of decision 1996/118 of 29 August 1996 of the Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities, decided, without a vote, to endorse the decision of the Sub-Commission to request the Special Rapporteur of the Sub-Commission on the study on treaties, agreements and other constructive arrangements between States and indigenous populations, Mr. Miguel Alfonso Martínez, to submit his final report in time for it to be considered by the Working Group on Indigenous Populations at its fifteenth session and by the Sub-Commission at its forty-ninth session. The Commission requested the Secretary-General to give the Special Rapporteur all the assistance necessary to enable him to conclude his study, in particular by providing for specialized research assistance and for special consultations with the Centre for Human Rights.
