The Interim Chairperson of the Commission Dispatches His Special Envoy to the Central African Republic
The Interim Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, H.E. Amara Essy, dispatched, on 14 April 2003, his Special Envoy to the Central African Republic, Mr. Sadok Fayala, to Central Africa. This mission is being undertaken pursuant to the Communiqué of the 90th Ordinary Session of the Central Organ at Ambassadorial level, held in Addis Ababa, on Monday, 17 March 2003.
Mr. Fayala will hold consultations with the leaders of the region, (namely, the leaders of Gabon, Congo Republic, Chad and the Central African Republic), to review the situation in the Central African Republic in light of the recent developments in that country and to consider modalities for ensuring a speedy return to constitutional legality.
In Bangui, in particular, the Special Envoy will consult with the new authorities of the Central African Republic, as well as with the rest of the social and economic stakeholders in the country. Also, he will consult with the Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (BONUCA) in Bangui.
This mission demonstrates the willingness of the African Union to support the efforts of the countries of the region aimed at restoring durable peace and stability in the Central African Republic.
