THE INTER-AMERICAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS,

HAVING SEEN:

1. The order of the President of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights of July 15, 1991 concerning the provisional measures requested by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights with regard to Guatemala;

2. The decision to convene a public hearing for 3:00 p.m. on July 29, 1991 contained in the aforementioned order;

3. The communications dated July 24 and 26 instant from the Government of Guatemala, indicating that, in compliance with the order of the President, it adopted measures designed to protect the persons listed in the said order and requesting an extension of at least 30 days for the hearing convened by the President for today in order to enable it to dispose of more time to prepare an appropriate response to the Court.

WHEREAS:

1. Under the terms of Article 23(4) of its Rules of Procedure, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights is required to rule on the order of the President of July 15, 1991.

2. That, since the Court is currently meeting, it must also decide on the request for a postponement of the hearing on the provisional measures presented by the Government of Guatemala.

THEREFORE:

THE INTER-AMERICAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS

RESOLVES:

1. To convene a public hearing to be held on July 30, 1991 at 3:00 p.m., with a view to receiving the arguments of the Government of Guatemala and the Commission concerning the former's petition for an extension of time.

2. To receive also, in this public hearing, information about the measures which the Government of Guatemala has taken in pursuance of the President's order of July 15 instant.

3. To reserve unto itself the right to convene another hearing on the Commission's original request for provisional measures.
