RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
The General Assembly,
Reaffirming the importance and continued validity of the Declaration
on International Economic Cooperation, in particular the Revitalization
of Economic Growth and Development of the Developing Countries,
contained in the annex to its resolution S-18/3 of 1 May 1990,
and the International Development Strategy for the Fourth United
Nations Development Decade, contained in the annex to its resolution
45/199 of 21 December 1990, which provide the overall framework
for sustained economic growth and sustainable development, and
recalling its resolutions 46/144 of 17 December 1991, 47/152 of
18 December 1992 and 48/185 of 21 December 1993 on the implementation
of the Declaration and the Strategy,
Aware that the Declaration, the Strategy and the agenda
for development are mutually supportive and closely interlinked
in promoting sustained economic growth and sustainable development
in the developing countries,
1. Takes note with interest of the report submitted by
the Secretary- General on the implementation of the Declaration
on International Economic Cooperation, in particular the Revitalization
of Economic Growth and Development of the Developing Countries,
and the International Development Strategy for the Fourth United
Nations Development Decade; A/49/328.
2. Encourages Member States that have not yet submitted
their reports on the implementation of the commitments and policies
agreed upon in the Declaration and in the Strategy to do so;
3. Decides, in order to monitor the progress made in the
implementation of the Declaration and of the Strategy and to facilitate
the deliberations on the report of the Secretary-General on the
subject, to include in the provisional agenda of its fifty-first
session the item entitled "International cooperation for
economic growth and development: (a) Implementation of the commitments
and policies agreed upon in the Declaration on International Economic
Cooperation, in particular the Revitalization of Economic Growth
and Development of the Developing Countries; (b) Implementation
of the International Development Strategy for the Fourth United
Nations Development Decade";
4. Requests the Secretary-General to submit to the General
Assembly at its fifty-first session a comprehensive and analytical
report for the purpose of reviewing and appraising in 1996 the
implementation of the commitments and agreements of the Declaration
and the Strategy, with particular emphasis on those commitments
and agreements that are not fully implemented, and to identify
the constraints to implementation;
5. Also requests the Secretary-General to ensure that the
agenda for development will, as appropriate, provide impetus to
and will strengthen the implementation of the Declaration and
the Strategy.
